The new Darkthrone album has been leaked, long ahead of schedule, much to the dismay of band members Fenriz and Nocturno Culto and is possible return to their black metal roots.
Archaeologists found the full track listing, lyrics and music in a mountain cave in Norway, they called in the expertise of local heavy metal expert Benny Bjorn, who correctly identified the findings as created by seminal Norwegian band Darkthrone.
Fenriz responded to the leak:
We didn’t want to release this in the normal way that albums are today, it is far too mainstream for black metal to be released the same way these awful pop records are released. We had decided to create our new album in the same way as our forefathers did, before the horrific Christianisation and brainwashing of our country. The album has been written completely in cave drawings and will be recorded in full in 3000 years time, once our ancestors have rediscovered musical instruments after religion causes the apocalypse. What we can promise fans is that it will be our most Black Metal album to date. Recording an album using contemporary recording techniques and instruments is not black metal, black metal is not meant to be heard by anyone for as long a period as possible.
We are planning to release the album on [their own record label Tyrant Syndicate Productions] and are currently taking pre-orders for the album now it has been discovered. However, as contemporary money will be useless in the post-apocalyptic world of 5014. We have instead chosen to only accept goods and services, in exchange for a deed entitling the descendants of the buyer to a copy of the album once it has been rediscovered and recorded.
Needless to say, we won’t be playing it live.
The album has been noted as an early contender for Metal Hammer‘s top 50 albums of 5014.
